Google Postmaster Tools Updates Compliance Dashboard. Is it a Cosmetic Change?

Email marketers cannot live without Google Postmaster Tools, the industry’s most vital analytics tool. However, important as it is, it hasn’t announced a serious update for a long time.
Albeit slow, the iterations Google keeps introducing all have an objective to be as transparent and actionable as possible, which also extends to this one.
The most recent update of Google Postmaster Tools is related to its new version — “V2”, and this time, the compliance dashboard got a makeover, changing how spam rates are displayed.
What does this mean in practice? Let us explain.
Google Postmaster Tools Compliance Dashboard Update
The new Google Postmaster Tools Compliance dashboard lets users see clearly when a domain is near or has exceeded either the suggested spam complaint rate limit of 0.1% or the defined hard limit of 0.3%, thanks to the two prominent lines across the display.

The view of the new display is more precise and easier to read, indicating unmistakable objectives the user needs to meet and monitor.
The old dashboard displayed the same data in a completely different manner, without the horizontal lines indicating spam rates and without taking both the domain and its subdomains into account. The new one remedied these faults. The difference between the old and the new display may appear as differing trendlines, although the data remains unchanged.
Ultimately, Postmaster’s dashboard UX designers definitely had the user in mind since the new display should remove ambiguity when people with less email experience read these reports.
We at Campaign Refinery love the change and believe that keeping a close eye on the spam rates and keeping them as low as possible is absolutely essential. Even more so today, since there are senders globally who are experiencing email throttling or seeing email delivery impacts when they exceed the 0.1% spam complaint threshold, even though the stated ceiling by Google is 0.3%.
As we know, user experience can make or break your email campaigns. Unfortunately, some of the Google Postmasters Tools users report the new interface is not visible yet, as it seems the update is rolling out at this moment.
For now, if you’re not seeing the updated dashboard yet and you’re managing a specific domain as an Owner, you can assign Read access to another Google account and see the data in the new display there.
What Do the Users Say?
While Google’s updates are generally welcomed, senders mention that displaying reference lines for the industry spam standards is the bare minimum (implying it should’ve been there already). Others are either silent or underwhelmed.
We at Campaign Refinery feel any positive change is good, especially if it shines a brighter light on the available data and allows us to monitor and adjust our campaigns for more success. Our future expectation for Google is to slowly rebuild each screen presently available at postmaster.google.com, transforming the “V2” into a more insightful and actionable digital space for senders.
The Campaign Refinery team is currently getting close to releasing our free Google Postmaster Tools integration to make staying up-to-date with Google’s insights super-easy as we continue to improve our best-sending practices.
